In this day and age it is a jungle trying to find the best deals out there when looking for car rental specials. It can be down right confusing trying to figure out which deal is the best one for your money. So the first thing that you need to do is ask the company you are planning on renting from if they charge on a calendar day or a 24 hour day. If they go on a calendar day then this is how things will happen. I rent a car at noon on the 5th of the month, I return said car on the 10th at noon my rate will be the same regardless as I could return any time on the tenth and pay the same price. Now lets look at a 24 hour day rental.

Ok same situation i pick up at noon on the 5th then I return lets say at 3pm on the 10th I will be charged for a sixth day as the rental day goes on a 24 hour cycle. Since I returned three hours later than I picked up I am being charged for a sixth day of usage.

If you travel during peak times you can expect to pay more than if you just travel during non peak times. So try and plan when you will be renting the car. If you can try to rent at a non peak time such as during the week or not on a holiday. If at all possible never rent a car on the holidays, you will find yourself paying through the nose for your rental.

In considering cheap car rentals you need to keep in mind the type of car that you are wanting to rent. If you are renting the basic economy car then you will not pay as much as a person who is renting a sports car in order to impress someone. This is an important factor to keep in mind when thinking about the car you want to rent, consider what you want as opposed to what you can afford.
